Prior to my private sector ventures, I served 20 years in various US Government postings:
UNITED STATES MARSHALS SERVICE
Deputy in Charge, Miami, FL Marshals Office, Operations Division (2014 – 2015)
Transferred to the Miami Prisoner Operations Division in 2014, tasked with restructuring day-to-day procedures. Collaborated with the Federal Clerk’s Office, Federal Probation, the United States Attorney’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and other offices to streamline the intake process for federal arrests. Oversaw the production process of every inmate in the Miami courthouse for hearings or trials and safe and secure processing.
Key Accomplishments:
- Coordinated with senior management and consulted with districts from around the country to identify antiquated processes and implement best new processes.
- Created streamlined forms and introduced new recordkeeping procedures to reduce the paperwork workload by approximately 33%.
- Received blanket authority from senior management to change policies.
Acting Supervisor, Deputy United States Marshal, Fort Lauderdale, FL Marshals Office (2010 – 2014)
Served as Acting Supervisor on multiple short-term occasions. The Fort Lauderdale office is a sub-office of Miami Field Office. Joined the Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force. Oversaw all administrative and operational duties for the area, including jail inspections, purchasing government supplies, coordinating repairs and services for, and overseeing security at the Federal Courthouse, maintaining government vehicles and property, and record keeping. Seized and inventoried all sea-going vessels in the area involved in federal court proceedings.
Key Accomplishments:
- Assisted in the capture of Top 15 Fugitive Paul Merhige (January 2, 2010), wanted for multiple homicides.
- Lead inspector for local and state jails in the Fort Lauderdale area, performing a detailed inspection of each facility annually, ensuring proper housing and care for federal prisoners.
Deputy United States Marshal, Key West, FL Marshals Office (2008 – 2010)
Transferred to the Key West office, a sub-office of the Miami Field Office. Oversaw operational and administrative duties (listed in the Fort Lauderdale position) in collaboration with 1 other Deputy Marshal, for the Key West area.
Key Accomplishments:
- Sent to Advanced Deputy Training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in 2008, to build on and update original Academy training, refining skills and keeping current with changing procedures and policies.
- In 2009, attended Jail Inspector Training, qualifying as a lead inspector over local and state jails in the Florida Keys area.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE CONTINUED Deputy United States Marshal, Minneapolis, MN Marshals Office (2005 – 2008)
Escorted federal prisoners to court hearings. Protected federal judges and witnesses. Apprehended both local and federal fugitives. Served federal process and arrest warrants across Minnesota, including at Native American Reservations. Contributed to special assignments.
Key Accomplishments:
- Promoted to Criminal Investigator in 2006. Attended a 4-month course at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center covering aspects of criminal investigations, such as gathering evidence, interviewing, crime scene processing, and advanced legal topics.
- 3 rotations with the Federal Witness Security Program, transporting protected federal witnesses and safely producing them at court hearings.
- Led the Juvenile Crime Apprehension Task Force, and was featured in USA Today.
- Attended Threat Investigation School and subsequently assigned as the investigator and coordinator of all threats pertaining to district federal court employees, including judges, prosecutors, probation officers, federally-appointed defense attorneys, and any other court staff assigned to a federal case.
- Assigned and coordinated security details to protect federal court employees receiving credible threats.
- Member of the security team for the “Liberty City Seven” terrorism trial. Sent to the Miami, FL Field Office on 3 occasions to participate in the proceedings.
- Attended Minneapolis Police Department SWAT School. After graduation, served as an operator on the joint United States Marshals Service – Minneapolis Police Department SWAT Team, and carried out dangerous and high-threat fugitive apprehensions.
- Assisted the Federal Bureau of Investigation as an operational member of the Joint Terrorism Task Force.
Deputy United States Marshal, Washington, D.C. Marshals Office (2002 – 2005)
Escorted federal prisoners to court hearings. Protected federal judges and witnesses. Apprehended both local and federal fugitives. Served federal process and arrest warrants.
United States Marine Corps (1998 - 2002)
Assigned to Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C. from 1998 to 2000, performing ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, the Marine Barracks, and the White House. Reassigned to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Unit, Camp Lejeune, NC in 2000, then deployed overseas for 6 months with the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Division. Sent to Afghanistan following 9/11 terrorist attacks.
